Claire Francis (born 1976), is a photographic artist living in Oxford. She gained her BA in Fine Art from UWIC in Cardiff, also training in horticulture and counselling.

Claire’s practice is rooted in her love of the wild, its influence on us and it’s capacity for healing and renewal. Often choosing handmade processes, she is driven by the act of building a physical image sometimes digitally, but often in a very handmade way.

“There are times when my work is all about the the physical process of making, about looking through a series of layers, using the trace elements of the process to stare beyond and into the picture; incorporating and exploiting the maker’s marks. The are times now where I lose myself in the digital world and am content to use the camera as a simple tool to catch the light.”

Receiving a Developing Your Creative Practice grant (2020), from Arts Council England, has supported ongoing research on her long-term work into Cyanotype and Gum Bichromate printing.
